    Notice: Election for the East Austin Area’s seat on the Community Development Commission

    The Election of the East Austin Area’s seat for the Community Development Commission to nominate and select an individual to serve as a commissioner to represent the low-income community in the neighborhood is this Thursday, April 22, 2021 at 6:00PM. Any community member legally residing within the related geographic area may be nominated or may self-nominate for the position.  Residents must pre-register to receive the meeting link to participate in nominations and/or voting on the Community Development Commission.

    Purpose of the commission:
    The Community Development Commission advises the City Council in the development and implementation of programs designed to serve the poor and the community at large with emphasis on federally funded programs (Community Services Block Grant). Commissioners are generally appointed for a term of 2-years followed by two 4-year terms, if reelected. Commissioners must actively participate in the development, planning, and evaluation of programs funded with federal funds. The commission is composed of 15 members: Seven members nominated/appointed by a council committee designated by the City Council along with Eight geographic areas designated by City Council to have a seat on the commission.

    Interested in Hosting a National Night Out Event on October 4th?

    Neighborhoods throughout Austin are invited to the 28th Annual National Night Out on Tuesday October 4, 2011.

    There are two parts to the annual event. From 5 to 7 p.m., there will be a Kick-Off Party at Mueller Master Community, 4550 Mueller Blvd., with FOOD, GAMES and CRIME PREVENTION INFORMATION. This is free and open to all Austinites.

    From 7 to 9 p.m., events such as cookouts, block parties and neighborhood walks will occur simultaneously throughout the City of Austin and nationwide. Citizens are asked to turn on their porch lights, lock their doors and spend the evening outside with their neighbors, City Council Members, police officers, firefighters, EMS paramedics and Code Compliance.

    National Night Out is designed to:

    1. Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness.
    2. Generate support and participation in crime efforts.
    3. Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police community relations.

    Neighborhood applications are due September 16, 2011. Read the National Night Out Brochure for more information.

    East Cesar Chavez Neighborhood Business Mixer

    The next East Cesar Chavez Business Mixer has been scheduled for Wednesday, September 14th, 6:00PM at CTC Headquarters, 1102 East Cesar Chavez Street. There is a food trailer available and we are looking for donations for beer and wine. This is a family friendly event, so feel free to bring your kids. Up for discussion will be the application for an IBIZ District for a one mile stretch of East Cesar Chavez Street and the confirmation of your business contact information for our newly launched web site. We look forward to seeing everyone soon!
