A Message from our new ECC Chairperson, Cristina Valdes, 789-0309

It is quite an honor to serve as the East Cesar Chavez Neighborhood Team’s new chairperson. I look forward to further contributing to the community and working towards achieving our neighborhood goals. Some of my personal goals for the year include improving the team’s web presence to better communicate with neighbors and area businesses, developing a consistent process for handling agenda items and citizen communications and coordinating more opportunities to enhance the lives of those neighbors most in need. I am most grateful to all of the team members for their continued hard work and efforts to preserve our neighborhood keep it safe and grow in a manner that will benefit us all.

Editor’s snarky remark: Cristina is our first female chair; so now, Girls Rule!

We urge stakeholders in the Holly Neighborhood to work together to form the same kind of Team we have in our planning area.  Working together with local businesses, residents, and non-profit groups builds community trust!

Our 32 page Trail Guide describes our history, cultural assets, describes 24 unique sites and it takes about 2 1/2 hours to walk the 4.95 mile Trail. Our  Guide also showcases the Tejano Music Legends Trail, another gem that’s 5.6 miles and better navigated by bike or car. Unfortunately, both Trails lack sidewalks in some areas and can be difficult for those using walkers or wheelchairs. Trail Guides are free and can be picked up at Terrazas Library, 1105 E. Cesar Chavez St., or the Neighborhood Center,

211 Comal Street during regular hours.
